Founder and Director: 



Brief Biography: 
Dr. Nizal Sarrafzadegan is Professor of Cardiology in Isfahan University of Medical Sciences in Iran. She is the founder director of Isfahan Cardiovascular Research Institute, a WHO collaborating center for research and training in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. She started her studies mainly on Cardiovascular Diseases (CVD) and it’s risk factors prevention, healthy lifestyle promotion with her team since 1993 and published more than 200 articles in local and international journals. Her academic career combines a clinical background with strong interest in public health and policy, she has numerous multidisciplinary collaborations with investigators internationally and has worked with the WHO on Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) prevention and health promotion as technical advisor or consultant. Dr. Sarrafzadegan has organized more than twenty international and local meetings on CVD or NCD prevention and control. 
Dr. Sarrafzadegan has been awarded several national, international and presidential awards as a distinguished researcher, professor, doctor or women on different occasions.
She is the principle investigator of the national plan of NCD prevention and control entitled “Isfahan Healthy Heart Program” in Iran that conducted between 2000-2006. She has an active role in capacity building in the fields of implementation research, knowledge transfer and private-public partnership for NCD/CVD prevention nationally and internationally.
Research Deputy:
ICRC initiated its activities in 1987 with aim of performing research on CVD primary, secondary prevention and health promotion for information for action. In 1993, a new building was allocated to the center and in 1994, the Council for Promoting the Iranian Universities approved the center as Center for Cardiovascular Research (ICRC). In 2003, ICRC was selected as a collaborating center with the World Health Organization for the prevention, control, and rehabilitation of cardiovascular diseases in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. The center was promoted in 2011 to Cardiovascular Research Institute with several research centers.
The central goal of ICRC is to utilize the existent technology to perform community-oriented biomedical research, produce applicable results, and contribute to furthering community knowledge.
General Objectives
1. To carry out basic and clinical research in the field of Cardiovascular Diseases (CVDs) with a special reference to the epidemiological aspects of prevention and control of CVDs, Cerebrovascular Diseases (CeVDs) and their risk factors and related diseases. 
2. To collect, evaluate and circulate information from research on prevention of CVDs and CeVDs. 
3. To contribute to the development and transfer appropriate technology for prevention, diagnosis and treatment of CVDs and CeVDs in EMR. 
4. To produce and disseminate research-based information on CVDs, CeVDs and their related risk factors to WHO when requested. 
5. Education and training, including: research training, medical education in the fields of NCD prevention, control and rehabilitation. 
6. Coordination of activities carried out by several institutions on a given subject. 
7. Providing information and advice on scientific, technical and policy issues.
8. Developing a surveillance system for NCDs and monitoring the risk factors and incidence of CVD and CeVD, and gauging related behaviors, attitudes, skills and knowledge in the community at large.
